41, profession in progress, married
What does “having it all” mean to you? For me, having it all means the freedom to say "no". For most of human history, women did not have this choice. Our lives were very proscribed. Now we can choose to marry for love, have kids and be a corporate titan—or not. It's just one of many choices and life trajectories we have.
What’s the best thing about not having kids? My husband and I currently don't have kids. Life might be very different if we did, but it's all very hypothetical. For right now, I'm cherishing the relationship and community we've been able to nurture.
What makes you complete? Complete sounds so final. What happens when you reach completion? Where do you go from there? I am amazed at how life becomes ever richer. A few years ago my husband and I started gardening. Sometimes when we're both there, attending to the plants in tranquil silence, I think life could not get any more perfect. But maybe next year it will be birdwatching! There is always more to discover and to share.
